Program 2019
  • Sat. 23/03
    16:00 - 18:00

    WAS. invites...
    Akua (DJ, Discwoman)
    Juana (DJ, Discwoman)
Jasmín (DJ & Communications, De School)
    Lisa Molle (Programmer, EKKO)
Sophia Seawell (Feminist writer & Communications Mama Cash) talk about the work that goes into becoming and being visible in the electronic music industry.

While Boiler Room offers an opportunity for DJs to be seen, the implications of being seen aren’t the same for every artist. We will talk about the work that goes into becoming visible, as well as the ironies and frictions that come into play when you are a DJ that is not white, male and/or straight.

Topics we will discuss are the ways in which we can amplify each other's voices, the double standard that comes with doing this work, tokenism, and the unpaid work that comes with seeing and calling out bullshit.

The talk will be moderated by Emma van Meyeren (Dance With Pride).
